Static HTML No runtime, faster loads
Standards-first Clean semantic markup & SEO base
Free CMS Git-based, easier than before
02 // THE CHALLENGE
- The site ran on Webflow: load times were slow and it leaned on Webflow’s runtime instead of clean, standards-compliant markup.
- Webflow billed $39/month (or $300/year) for its platform and built-in CMS — a recurring cost for what is essentially a content site.
- Publishing new content through Webflow’s editor was awkward for the client.
03 // THE SOLUTION
- Rebuilt the whole site on Eleventy (11ty), generating fast static HTML with no proprietary runtime.
- Preserved the existing look: the large body of existing styles was ported into clean, hand-edited CSS — copied and refined rather than rebuilt from scratch, which kept delivery fast and the design identical.
- Set up a free, open-source Git-based CMS (content versioned right in the GitHub repo) so the client can comfortably publish articles — a smoother flow than Webflow, with no licence fee.

Max moved our whole site off Webflow without changing how it looks — it loads faster now and we stopped paying the monthly fee. Publishing articles is finally simple.
